Old Stone House Gallery Invites Artists to Display Work

The Old Stone House -- the historic art gallery and community center in Hasbrouck, NY -- has once again issued a “Public Art Invitation” to artists wishing to display their works this year and next year.

With two fabulous gallery rooms available, the Old Stone House is perfect for artists working with oils, watercolors, and other media suitable for wall hanging. Photographers also find the space ideal. Individual pieces can be as large as six feet high and ten feet wide. Sculptors providing their own display arrangements, such as tables and pedestals, are also welcome to participate.

For the past several years, the facility has hosted works by scores of highly regarded local and regional artists, usually on a rotating monthly calendar. Artists may sell their works at whatever prices they set, and a percentage of all sales revert to the Old Stone House itself for maintenance and upkeep.

Several month-long openings are usually available so that previously under-recognized artists can benefit from an opportunity to show (and sell) their work to a larger audience. The Old Stone House imposes surprisingly few requirements on its displaying artists. If not already a member of the facility, there's a required membership fee of $20/single person, $30/family, $15/senior & students.

Exhibitors are expected to host an opening-day reception, and arrange weekend display hours for the duration of a show. They are also responsible for hanging their own art, generating their own publicity, and removing any unsold art afterwards, although volunteers often help out whenever they have time.

To learn more about the “Public Art Invitation” and to reserve an opening for your own exhibition, call Alana Sherman at 845-436-0070.

Information for Artists

Artists preparing an exhibit at the Old Stone House are encouraged to provide information and artwork suitable for uploading to this web site. For each exhibit, we suggest a few paragraphs about the artist (an "artist's statement") and the overall exhibition, along with a few graphics. Please tell us all about your official opening and reception, and what hours you'll be attending your show during its run. The artwork most suitable is in jpg format, at 150dpi, with each item measuring no more than 2 inches on a side. Please email your material to garrwald(at) as far in advance of your exhibition as possible.
