Spring Ballet Classes

Starting April 13th, kids 3-10 years old can take ballet classes here at the Old Stone House.

The classes will be taught by local resident and certified Dance Therapist Alana Sherman, who has been teaching for more than 30 years. Having studied ballet since she was 12, she focused much of her professional attention on the benefits of that graceful art form.

Her one-hour classes begin at 10:15 am Saturday, April 13, and continue on the seven subsequent Saturdays. The last class is scheduled for June 1.

“These will be no-pressure beginner classes,” said Ms. Sherman, “without competition or enormous expectations. The main point will be to learn about ballet, and have lots of fun dancing.”

The classes will, however, follow the customary ballet class structure --warm-up exercises, then use of the horizontal railing known as the barre, plus so-called “center” work, with students learning how to adjust their positions and movements in relationship to all their classmates.

Tuition for each student is $10 per class, or $65 for all eight sessions. The children of Old Stone House members get a 20% discount. Depending on overall class progress, a short ballet recital for family and friends may be scheduled in June.
